  • Baltimore's Larry Collmus named NYRA's next race caller

    Baltimore native Larry Collmus, the voice of the Triple Crown and the Breeders' Cup for NBC Sports, was named the New York Racing Association's next race caller. He will be succeeding Tom Durkin. Collmus will continue to call races at Churchill Downs for its September and fall meets and take over his new duties in April, during the final month of the Aqueduct Racetrack spring meet. The Mount St. Joseph graduate's first on-track call was in 1985 at Bowie Race Course. He was hired two years later as the track announcer at Alabama's Birmingham Turf Club, becoming at age 20 the youngest announcer in the United States.
