1. Predictions: Golden Globes 2013--movies

No matter who wins or loses Sunday, the 2013 Golden Globes ceremony obviously will be awesome because Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler are hosting. Really: That should be enough to make even the most awards show-averse movie/TV fans tune in.

3. Bill Murray scoffs at doubt as FDR in 'Hyde Park on Hudson'

For Bill Murray, playing Franklin Delano Roosevelt in the new film “Hyde Park on Hudson” meant risking some serious derision. Now 62, Murray carries with him a huge recognition factor thanks to a host of comedies: "Stripes," "Caddyshack," "Groundhog Day," "Ghostbusters." More recently he has brought a weary, witty gravitas to more bittersweet material, a la "Rushmore," "Lost in Translation" and others.

5. Golden Globe nominations 2013: 'Lincoln,' 'Argo,' 'Zero Dark Thirty' top list

Two vastly different films about the scourge of slavery in America, a thriller about the rescue of American hostages in Iran and a study of the dogged quest to capture one of the world's most wanted men -- Osama bin Laden -- were among the top nominees Thursday morning for the Golden Globe awards.

7. 'Hyde Park on Hudson' review: Makes 'Lincoln' look like 'Skyfall'

*1/2 (out of four)
*1/2 (out of four) President Franklin D. Roosevelt (Bill Murray) drives his fifth cousin Daisy (Laura Linney) to an isolated field. He puts her hand on his thigh and unfastens his pants. You know where this is going. Daisy must be awfully good with...

9. Golden Globe Nods

Steven Spielberg’s historical drama “Lincoln” was nominated for a leading seven Golden Globe Awards, including Best Drama, yesterday morning. Quentin Tarantino’s blood-soaked, 19th century-set revenge picture “Django Unchained” and Ben Affleck’s Iran hostage-crisis nail-biter are each up for five prizes, while the movie musical “Les Miserables,” the mental-illness comedy “Silver Linings Playbook” and the hunt-for-Osama-bin-Laden thriller “Zero Dark Thirty” each earned four nods. 11. Murray is the anchor, but plot adrift in 'Hyde Park on Hudson' ★★

The music’s the best thing about the peculiar, demurely prurient “Hyde Park on Hudson,” starring Bill Murray as Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Laura Linney as his spinster fifth cousin, Daisy Suckley. Setting the scene, and the mood, for this anecdotal account of FDR’s pre-war sexual escapades one weekend in 1939, composer Jeremy Sams soaks the movie in a sly and charming recurring theme, a habanera rather like a buttoned-down variation on the famous aria from Bizet’s “Carmen.”

15. Charlie Sheen's film will inspire fresh admiration, director says

Charlie Sheen hasn't garnered much attention for his big-screen activity lately, and when he does, it's for mainly stunt-y turns.

17. Directors detail their films' crucial scenes

For most directors, there is usually one moment in their film that brings it all together while they are shooting — or sometimes before production has even started — one scene that unlocks key relationships among the characters or clicks so well the director knows the film as a whole is going to work. Or sometimes it depicts in just a minute or two the whole point of the film. The Envelope talked with five directors with films out this year who experienced just such a moment.

21. 'Hyde Park on Hudson' doesn't illuminate FDR, critics say

"Hyde Park on Hudson," this award season's less flashy presidential portrait, stars Bill Murray as Franklin Delano Roosevelt at the time of a visit by England's King George VI (Samuel West) and Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman) in 1939 to drum up international support on the eve of World War II.
