The geeky freshman played by Anthony Michael Hall lusted after Samantha (Molly Ringwald), who's a virgin saving herself for Jake Ryan in "Sixteen Candles." And friends of Andy (Steve Carell) in "40 Year Old Virgin" try to help him do the deed.

  7. Jazziz Nightlife: Not all that jazz

If Michael Fagien's new upscale Mizner Park drink house sounds even remotely like a jazz joint, well, the founder of Jazziz Magazine wants you to perish that thought immediately. Jazziz Nightlife will bring to its corner of the Mizner strip alto saxophonist David Sanborn, jazz singer Nicole Henry and other touring luminaries, feed supper to musically inclined patrons and festoon its walls with portraits of Sinatra, Brubeck and Fitzgerald.

It's not even the weekend, and the Miami Book Fair International has so far delivered a who's who of celebrated authors in Tom Wolfe, Junot Diaz, Sandra Cisneros and others. 15. Molly Ringwald: Pretty in ink

One of the many surprises in Molly Ringwald's "When It Happens to You" arrives somewhere within the book's first 50 pages, when you forget that you're reading a novel by an actress whose films were as much a part of your adolescence as bad hair, chronic awkwardness and reckless driving, and you find yourself wondering why you haven't heard of this writer until now. Sure, you only need to catch her name on the book's spine to be reminded that this Molly Ringwald is the same one who starred as a teenager in "The Breakfast Club," "Sixteen Candles" and "Pretty in Pink." And sure, her voice when you pick up the phone on a recent Monday morning sends you right back to the terrifying halls of your own high school, your own after-school detentions, your own goofy friends. But the Molly Ringwald who wrote "When It Happens to You" strikes you as someone entirely different. Someone you didn't even know existed.

  23. The Writefast Club

The conversation segued from book to book, ranging from Elizabeth Strout's “Olive Kitteridge” to the works of Philip Roth, over coffee in the Palmer House café. Molly Ringwald had come to Chicago late this spring to support 826CHI, a non-profit tutoring center, as part of its “People Eating & Giving” dinner. There she read part of her forthcoming book, “When It Happens to You,” a set of interlinked stories about modern life and relationships. Ringwald is known for her roles in John Hughes' movies such as “The Breakfast Club” and “Pretty in Pink.” But the former teen star is now a mother of three, including 3-year-old twins and 8-year-old Mathilda, and she is married to Panio Gianopoulos, a former editor at a New York publishing house who now writes fiction himself.
