The TV Guy - Orlando Sentinel
Here are a few things we learned from NBC's “Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together” telethon: Billy Joel remains in astonishingly good voice. Sting remains remarkably fit (and in good voice, too). And Jimmy Fallon has chutzpah. I like chutzpah....

7. Music for the Masses

The inaugural iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas last September marked the launch of the new iHeartRadio digital music service in sensational style and to incredible effect. Featuring A-list performers from Lady Gaga and Jay-Z to Coldplay and Carrie Underwood, it was the biggest live concert festival in radio history and helped iHeartRadio — a free digital music service that offers instant access to more than 1,000 of the nation’s most popular radio stations, plus user-created Custom Stations — attract 10 million registered users in just eight months (faster than all other popular entertainment and communication platforms, including Facebook and Twitter).

15. Album review: Miguel, 'Kaleidoscope Dream'

3.5 stars (out of 4)
3.5 stars (out of 4) On his second album, “Kaleidoscope Dream” (RCA), Miguel Pimental drops enough references to his heroes and inspirations that he could be considered a bit of a name-dropper, a clever mimic rather than an innovator. But his...

18. 'Rock of Ages'

A soundtrack of rock-music standards remains at the heart of this stage hit as director Adam Shankman ("Hairspray") brings it to the screen. Also somewhat standard is its main plot of a small-town girl ("Dancing With the Stars" veteran Julianne Hough) and a city boy (Diego Boneta) whose paths cross as they seek showbiz fame.

20. Film review: 'Rock of Ages' stewed in irony?

“Rock of Ages” is adapted from a stage musical that — in the manner of “Mamma Mia” and “Jersey Boys” — uses a story as an excuse to resurrect bygone hits with emotional resonance for an aging demographic. This is generally a debased subgenre, though (as my colleague Wade Major points out) one that also includes “Singin' in the Rain.” In the current case, however, the music isn't classic Tin Pan Alley, but rather ’80s power ballads and anthems from the likes of Twisted Sister, Journey, Pat Benatar and Foreigner.
