3. On Theater: Another 'Lincoln,' closer to home

I'd like to use my space this week to talk about "Lincoln." No, not the Steven Spielberg blockbuster that may be front-and-center at Sunday's Oscar ceremonies, and not Bill O'Reilly's "Killing Lincoln," now on our television screens.

  5. 'The Walking Dead' recap: Woodbury goes to war

Honestly, “Home” threatened to be a bit of a bore for me until its well-nigh transcendent final 10 minutes. But those final 10 minutes were so good that they ended up boosting my opinion of the episode as a whole quite a bit. Hey, if you’re going to nail something in an episode of TV, you may as well nail the ending and leave everybody with a good taste in their mouths.

  7. Garry Wills: a devout critic

A political conservative turned liberal, lifelong Roman Catholic and world-class curmudgeon, Garry Wills has called President Barack Obama a disappointment and Pope Benedict XVI irrelevant — and that was before the pontiff announced his resignation.

  9. 'Day's' end: McClane tale tapped out in final 'Die Hard' ★ 1/2

"A Good Day to Die Hard" isn't just the weakest of the "Die Hard" pictures; it's a lousy action movie on its own terms, even without comparing it to the adored 1988 franchise launch starring Bruce Willis as John McClane, the New York cop who's a carnage magnet for all the terrorists and a supercool symbol of American might, right and muttered wisecrack.

  21. 'The Walking Dead' recap: Showdown in Woodbury

Season three of "The Walking Dead" has had a decidedly John Wayne bent to it. The bad guys are evil, the good guys are complicated, and the elements are constantly threatening. This week’s mid-season finale followed familiar Western logic: Rick and his team of prison misfits would finally face a showdown with the Governor over Glenn and Maggie.
