  1. 'Mad Men' Season 6 premiere recap, 'The Doorway'

Did Don Draper cheat on Megan? You get an answer, but it is far from the point of the episode.
Did Don Draper cheat on Megan? You get an answer, but it is far from the point of the episode. "The Doorway," the good-but-not-great, often poetic (but also often very slow moving) Season 6 premiere is not an exuberant return. The action is often very...

"When is everything going to go back to normal?" - Roger Sterling
"When is everything going to go back to normal?" - Roger Sterling Raise your hand if you were ready for Fat Betty? Or Don's new secretary being named Dawn? Or (what I'm guessing) is the first-ever Rolling Stones-potential-bean-commercial idea. Yeah,...

  7. A first look at 'Mad Men's' season 5 opener

First off, as serious fans of"Mad Men"probably already know, creator Matthew Weiner sent a letter to critics with the screener for the season 5 opener, essentially asking them not to talk or write about anything of consequence in the two-hour opener that airs March 25.

  9. 'Night Flight' still soars over today's movies

Vintage Hollywood movies were often belittled for taking liberties with history and glazing over the facts in their biographical dramas. But where are the upholders of truth when it comes to the current crop of American films? Movies by top-rank...

  15. TV Picks: 'North America,' 'Ghost Army,' 'Mad Men,' Mel Brooks

<strong>"North America" (Discovery Channel, Sunday).</strong> The latest blockbuster nature documentary to justify your purchase of an HDTV (see also "Planet Earth," "Life," "Frozen Planet," "Africa") is the seven-part "North America." There are some hectoring musical passages and the narration, delivered by Tom Selleck, foregrounding the folksy creak in his voice, can run to the precious and dramatically over-personified: Why does the continent need to be "she," or the yearning-to-breathe-free behavior of wild animals be taken to somehow express "the American heart"? But you can turn down the sound to eliminate that human element and feel all the power and mystery of the wilderness without distraction. (You'll still know what's happening most of the time.) The real honor the series does the natural world is to pay it witness, and this it is does exceedingly well: It is gorgeous clean through. The episode I've seen hops around the map, from gray whales in the Bering Sea to cute little colorful birds in the Costa Rican jungle; there are bears and sea turtles and mustangs. The usual caveat applies: Nature is beautiful but not always pretty.
