Snow White and the Huntsman
Snow White and the Huntsman Astonishingly beautiful and breathtaking in its brutal imagery, thrilling and frightening in equal measure, yet as bereft of satisfying substance as a poisoned apple. Director Rupert Sanders' revisionist take on the classic...

11. Dark Shadows

In my opinion, Tim Burton is the worst director making money in Hollywood. And it’s not like things are going to change. He likes to remake stuff, and he puts Johnny Depp in it. This means the films make millions and millions. Why would anything change?

15. Film review: Burton's 'Dark Shadows' gives little to sink teeth into

At this point people pretty much know what they're getting when they buy a ticket to a Tim Burton movie. The film will star Johnny Depp and Burton's wife Helena Bonham Carter. The score will be by Danny Elfman. The characters will all be pale. The scenery will be going for a "twisted but beautiful" look that in the end is just ugly. The film will have a gruesome tone, but will nonetheless go after the family market. Burton hasn't done much to deviate from this formula in the past decade, and in fairness it's worked just fine for him commercially. But it's also earned him a reputation as a cookie-cutter filmmaker, a reputation that "Dark Shadows" only reinforces.

17. Pablo Picasso Would Have Loved 'Dark Shadows'

Reuters
May 11 (TheWrap.com) - Pablo Picasso would have loved "Dark Shadows." The fantasy make-up of Depp and Co. is straight out of Picasso's Harlequin Period. Cubism and its mates would have cheered the art direction. Braque and Matisse would have...

19. Johnny Depp, Tim Burton welcome us back to the 'Shadows'

"Dark Shadows," one of the first daytime dramas of the 1960s, is back as a fantastic film that could suck the blood out of all other vampire movies. It's the mid-1700s and Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp) has been turned into an immortal vampire by...

21. Film Review: 'Dark Shadows' more comedic than dark

In “Dark Shadows,” Tim Burton exhumes the Dan Curtis gothic soap opera of the same name, which ran five days a week from 1966-1971. Not surprisingly, Burton's frequent collaborator Johnny Depp takes over the role of vampire Barnabas Collins. (Jonathan Frid — who played Barnabas in over a thousand episodes of the TV show and who died just a few weeks ago — can be spotted in the film as a guest entering a gala ball.)
