The program has transformed the campus with new dorms, classrooms and research labs. But the massive contruction project has brought its share of problems. The university had to spend an additional $28 million to correct hundreds of fire and building code violations that were found in many of the new and removated buildings. The university has $181.8 million in external funding for research, including $90.1 million for the health center. The university's annual budget is $1.5 billion with an endowment of $300 million. Tuition, fees, room and board cost $17,702 a year for Connecticut residents and $31,646 for out-of-state-students. The university has 174,500 alumni, 102,000 of whom live in Connecticut.
