Mary E. Hearn, a retired Baltimore County public school educator who enjoyed the theater and opera, died Sunday at the University of Maryland Medical Center of complications from a fall. She was 85. The daughter of James Edward McManus, a bookkeeper, and Grace Ann Boyle McManus, a homemaker, Mary Elizabeth McManus was born and raised in Clarksville, Pa., where she graduated in 1947 from Jefferson High School. She graduated in 1951 from Duquesne University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in education. In 1952, she married her college sweetheart, John Barry Hearn Sr., who was also an educator.
