1. Loyola's Crane, Towson High's Skinner named Unsung Hero Award winners

The One Love Foundation announced Thursday that North Carolina’s Zoe Skinner (Towson High) and Loyola’s Jason Crane (Chesapeake-Anne Arundel) have been selected as the 2013 Yeardley Reynolds Love Unsung Hero Award winners. Now in its third year, the award celebrates selfless acts of initiative and commitment performed by Division I lacrosse players; it is named after the former Notre Dame Prep and Virginia player. Skinner and Crane are being rewarded based on their exceptional dedication, integrity, humility, hard work, community service, leadership, kindness and sportsmanship, traits Yeardley exemplified on and off the field.

  3. Maryland's model for gun regulation

Tomorrow, Gov. Martin O'Malley plans to sign into law the most comprehensive gun control legislation Maryland has seen in at least 25 years, a bill that will not only help guard against a mass shooting incident, like December's massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School, but will also help fight the day-to-day violence that plagues Baltimore and other communities. The bill has become doubly important with the failure — at least for the moment — of attempts to tighten gun laws on the federal level, both because it will make Marylanders safer and because it can serve as a model for other states as they seek ways to address gun violence.

  5. Time to talk about guns

I grew up with guns in my house. There are guns in my house. I understand the sport of the shooting range and the sport of hunting. I understand the argument, while not finding it convincing, that guns in the home protect you.

  17. Md. gun bill gets stronger

Despite the national horror at the massacre of 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in December, the effort in Congress to enact any meaningful legislation to address gun violence appears increasingly at risk. The first casualty of the gun lobby's efforts was the proposed reinstatement of the assault weapons ban. And now even the idea of extending background checks to gun shows and private sales appears to be in trouble. As each day passes, it seems, the memory of the Newtown massacre fades, and so does the will to act.

It also mentioned some books, which could have been Adam's or his mother's.

  21. Let's be grown-ups on gay marriage and assault weapons

Given the lack of interest in Congress in protecting children from guns, it was nice to hear a grown-up in Washington speak on behalf of kids, any kids — in this case, the nearly 40,000 kids who live with same-sex parents in California.

  23. Why we should ban assault weapons

In 2002, John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo terrorized the Washington region for three weeks by firing bullets at innocent people in parking lots and at gas stations, ultimately killing 10 people and wounding three others. They used a Bushmaster XM-15 E2S rifle, one many variants of America's most popular assault weapon, the AR-15.
