Loyola College in Maryland is a Catholic liberal arts school located in Baltimore. Founded in 1852, the school was named for St. Ignatius Loyola, who founded the Jesuit order of Catholic priests. Loyola College is one of four higher education institutions in the United States named "Loyola" the others are Loyola Marymount University in California, Loyola University in Chicago and Loyola University New Orleans. Loyola is also a Division I school, and the Loyola Greyhound athletic teams compete in eight sports in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Student activities include the Greyhound newspaper, WLOY radio station, a student government, two literary publications, a commuter students' association, a cappella and chorus groups, cultural groups, and professional and service organizations. Famous Loyola alumni include author Tom Clancy, sportscaster Jim McKay and CIGNA CEO and chairman H. Edward Hanway.
