With grant, JHU president aims to make university more accessible to city students

Johns Hopkins University President Ronald J. Daniels plans to introduce new programs to make the university more accessible to Baltimore City Public Schools students and graduates using grant money from a recent award.

Daniels will dedicate $500,000 in grants from the Carnegie Corporation's Academic Leadership Award toward new initiatives, including increasing support for low-income students through the Baltimore Scholars program, partnering with local elementary and middle schools, and developing new initiatives aimed at college and career preparation, Hopkins officials said.
