Monsignor Slade Catholic School alum Joey Benitez's baseball career is heating up in the Arizona sun. The left-handed pitcher was drafted in the 22nd round by the Chicago White Sox, playing in the Arizona League.
"It's an incredible feeling," Benitez said. "Still is surreal, honestly. I always hoped I'd get here but never could fully expect it."
Benitez has been in Arizona for about a week, where daytime temperatures have forced nighttime practices. He hopes to be moved up to either Great Falls, Minnesota or Kannapolis, North Carolina.
