The University of Maryland, Baltimore County, also known as UMBC, is a mid-sized public research university that was founded in 1966. UMBC is located on 500 acres in Catonsville, Md. - about 20 minutes away from Baltimore - and is a separate campus from the University of Maryland at Baltimore.
