13. Quinnipiac University Theater for Community Presenting a Story About Women in the Workforce

Travel back to 1963 Ireland this week as Quinnipiac University Theater for Community performs Patricia Burke Brogan's play Eclipsed. The play takes you inside one of the Magdalene laundries where unmarried pregnant women were forced into labor (and we don't mean the eventual baby-related kind). Find out how these women were able to keep their spirits up during what has to be one of the harshest experiences, not considering how vulnerable a pregnancy can make you.

  21. Crime & Punishment: A Couple People Who Really Hate Obama

Every autumn, Colchester holds a community-made scarecrow display on the Town Green. On election years, town Democrats sponsor a patch and put up scarecrow effigies of candidates, according to the Norwich Bulletin. Not the best at arts and crafts, the Dems' display this year featured straw men with pumpkin heads and headshots of candidates (including the president, vice president and five state or local candidates) taped to pumpkins. Someone apparently found that threatening enough to light the display on fire. Republican First Selectman Gregg Schuster joked on Facebook, "At the time, I was in a meeting with over a dozen people that will confirm it wasn't me!" Democrats accused him of not taking the arson seriously, leading, of course, to a pissing match in which Schuster accused the Democrats of being more concerned with his comments than the unemployment rate.
