The school now boasts 51 undergraduate programs in addition to 17 graduate programs and a law school, which was added in 1991. The school is also home to the widely respected Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. The Q Poll conducts regular surveys in Connecticut, Florida, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania and nationwide about hotly contested political races. The poll made its name by corectly predicting the outcome of the fiercely fought Schumer-D'Amato New York Senate race in 1998. The poll results are regularly cited by national and regional media. John L. Lahey, appointed Quinnipiac's president in 1987, is widely credited with raising the school's profile. He boosted enrollment, guided a campus building boom and oversaw a big jump in the endowment. Notable alumni include New Haven bagel king Murray Lender, William C. Weldon, chairman of the board and CEO of Johnson & Johnson and numerous television reporters, media professionals and public relations executives.
