1. Bradley's of Fells Point barely makes an impression

Before its 15 minutes of fame, J.A. Murphy's was a fun, occasionally rowdy but unremarkable Fells Point bar. It was the type of place you stopped by for a quick beer during a pub crawl, but usually left before a second round.

  13. Guide to May 2013 TV premieres, finales, movies and specials

The May TV schedule is filled with finales, but don't think you won't have anything to watch. The Bluths are back! Yes, on May 26 Netflix with offer up all 15 episodes of the new "Arrested Development" with all the sitcom's original cast intact. Can't wait to learn what the Bluths have been up to, but they aren't the only attraction in May. Syfy will air the final five episodes of "Merlin" beginning May 3. ABC debuts a new crime drama, "Motive," and brings back "Rookie Blue," while A&E kicks off new seasons of "Longmire" and "The Glades." Over at Own, Tyler Perry gives the network its first scripted shows in "the Haves and Have Nots" and "Love Thy Neighbor." It's going to be a busy month, as you can see below. (All times are Central.)

  15. Survivalist themes in TV shows, movies tap into fear of the big fall

Frankly, it sounded pretty stupid. For reasons unknown, electricity fails worldwide, sending humanity into a post-technological free-fall. Weeds grow in the Capitol (very "Logan's Run"), young women defend their families with bows and arrows (very "Hunger Games"), and no one seems to remember that people made ice cream and bullets long before electricity was harnessed as a personal power source.

  17. Guide to February 2013 TV premieres, specials, movies

Every February we celebrate Valentine's Day and Black History Month, but this one is extra special because we welcome NBC's "Community" back to TV after too long a hiatus. It's also when the high-profile Netflix series, "House of Cards," debuts. Back on the regular TV, "The Walking Dead" and "SouthLand" are back. As usual, I may have missed something, so let me know. And check back, I'll update regularly.

  21. Schedule of January 2013 TV premieres, movies, specials

I look forward to January TV because one of my favorite shows, FX's "Justified," always premieres at the midseason. But the 2013 midseason schedule is special for another reason: "Cougar Town" begins its new life on TBS Jan. 8, the same night Season 4 of "Justified" begins. My DVR will be working hard this month.
