1. Apocalypse when now? Doomsday enthusiasts are still holding out hope

Well, 12:01 a.m. came and went (even in Mayan Time, otherwise known as Central Time) and nothing really happened. Although Annapolis was plunged into darkness and bathed in an eerie blue light, BGE assures us it wasn't apocalypse-related. Pessimists are still holding out hope though, guessing maybe it will happen at the end of long day's work right before your Christmas vacation starts.

  5. Who is more evil Instagram or the NRA? Internet is undecided

After the past few days, America needs something to be mad at and quick. Luckily the NRA and Instagram have stepped in to help our rage cravings. The NRA has been unusually silent throughout aftermath of the Sandy Hook school shooting. Its Twitter accounts are collecting dust and its Facebook page has been shut down after pro-gun control commenters stormed the gates shortly after the shooting. In absence of them talking or defending themselves, they have become the perfect boogymen to vilify with impunity and the Internet has not passed up the opportunity.

  11. What happened to Facebook and why is Adrienne Maloof out for blood? The web wants to know

The conspiracy theorists are out in force after both Facebook and Google had technical issues yesterday. The outages of various services including Gmail appear to be unrelated. Facebook was down for about 20 minutes for some users and is back this morning. Google problems were more extensive, but they too appear to be resolved. But thankfully, Twitter has been unaffected and able to feed the paranoia.

  15. Royals, Redskins and Rita Ora are fascinating the Internet this morning

Royals! Redskins! And a really really bad breakup! Today's online trends have it all. First up, royal wife Kate Middleton is again under the media microscope -- fortunately for her she has all her clothes on this time. The royal baby (or babies!) received loads of attention yesterday and now the online discussion is moving toward what we should name the baby (or babies!). I'm sure the Duke and Duchess will consult Reddit before the momentous decision.

  19. 'Dancing with the Stars: All Stars' recap, Michael Jackson night

Tonight is a tribute to Michael Jackson's "Bad" and the show starts with pros and the troupe performing to two of the album's "monster hits" — "Smooth Criminal" and "The Way You Make Me Feel." I wish we were getting a "Thriller? tribute instead of a "Bad" tribute, but "Bad's" the one that's turning 25 and getting a Spike Lee-directed special on this same network later this week.
