  • Drama Club spoof 'Romeo and Harriet' plays to packed house [West Laurel]

Bond Mill Drama Club put a twisted spin on Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" when talented young thespians performed Romeo and Harriet on March 1. This was the special tenth anniversary production under the direction of Kristen Ruiz and Rolanda Brown. Romeo and Harriet was a tragical musical comedy set in New York City. The Montagues and Capulets were retail store chains and Romeo and Harriet were the heirs to those retail empires. The hilarious play was full of energy with one-liners, singing and dancing. Romeo was played by Elijah Clary and Harriet was Julia Knisely. Characters had fabulous names like Gucci, Antipasto, Pesto, Risotto, Prosciutto and Romana. Friar Lawrence [Drew Durrington] and the nurse [Caroline Lehman] counseled the star-crossed retailers. The house was completely full and overflowing. Cast members and stage crew included Ricayah Merritt, Geraldine George, Joy Kuria, Gillian Gorthey, Sydney Endres, Camryn Tweedy, Mya Dixon, Jennifer Reynoso, Olivia Hardy, Raegan Perkes, Madison Jones, Chigozi Uwandu, Taylor McKenna, Jalayah Murphy, Josh Williams, Nicole Campos, Josue Campos, Azaria Muhammad, Thara Pillai, Cora Schweiss, Ogechi Uwandu, Jayden Ware, Alexis Casey, Mia Hamilton, Natalia Bonilla, Aaron Wilson, Rahel Mani, Jasmine Conyers, Catherine Erroa, Evelyn Wiredu, Amari Muhammad, Noel Klund, Lade Tinubu, Anthony Teed, Liam Brinton, Grace Zack, Josh Webb, Luis Bonilla, Thomas Whitley, Jocelyn Motley, Ryan Sokolowsky and Morgan Jones. It was a family affair as many of the parents, sisters and brothers helped with set design and construction, makeup and hair, costumes and more. Debbie Teed played the role of stage mother extraordinaire assisting director Kristen Ruiz. It was a dazzling and exciting evening, creating more Bond Mill memories.
