What if you had to save the Chesapeake Bay and you had almost no money?
What if you had to save the Chesapeake Bay and you had almost no money? It's a fitting question in the aftermath of the Great Recession, as governments across the watershed wonder how to afford the next round of bay cleanup requirements. I've been...

  7. A 'virtual power plant' in your home: conservation

I leave the water running while I do the dishes, drive a half-ton truck that gets 10 miles to the gallon and, in the energy hog display that my husband finds most annoying, I move from room to room without turning off lights behind me.

  9. Trash incineration isn't renewable energy

A growing coalition of environmentalists, public health advocates and sustainable businesses including renewable energy companies and composters are urging Gov. Martin O'Malley to veto legislation that would qualify trash incineration as a "Tier 1" renewable energy source on par with solar and wind — and rightly so. The bill on Mr. O'Malley's desk would be disastrous for advancing the state's top waste-management priorities — reduce, reuse and recycle — and legitimate renewable energy.

  11. Obama's Mideast policy ignores realpolitik

Being a third generation American Ashkenazi I look at the Near-East with American eyes, but with a certain sensitivity arising from my own ethnicity. President Obama and his minions are hell bent on trying to address the Israeli/Palestinian problem, and...

  21. Constellation offers its stake in Calvert Cliffs to French partner for $1

Constellation Energy Group offered Friday to sell its half-stake in the proposed third nuclear reactor at Calvert Cliffs to its French partner for $1, a move that would allow EDF Group to pursue the Maryland project alone but would end the Baltimore company's business in U.S. nuclear development.

  23. Constellation pulls out of new Calvert Cliffs nuclear power venture

Constellation Energy Group walked away this weekend from federal financing negotiations for a proposed third nuclear reactor at Calvert Cliffs in a move that casts the project into doubt and threatens to erase thousands of jobs to build and operate the plant, as well as cut off a crucial supply of power expected to lower prices.
