“Would you like to buy a carbon offset with your purchase today?” That’s a question you hear more often when you rent a car or buy groceries at MOM’S Organic Markets. Now, you also have that option when you buy natural gas to...

  3. A new day for U.S. manufacturing

Remember the 1980s? It was to be the decade of Japanese dominance. A post-Jimmy Carter America would be unable to compete with the efficient Japanese jobs machine. Aging technology, lazy management and high-cost labor would ensure America's rapid demise at the hands of the ascendant Asian economic superpower.

  5. Not too soon to ban fracking

The oil and gas industry promotes the myth of shale gas providing energy security and economic growth, but those claims are based more on hype than fact ("Anti-fracking legislation is premature," March 7). A Food & Water Watch study in 2011 showed that one job claim was exaggerated by 900 percent. Betting our future on the supposed abundance of natural gas — likely about a six-year supply — would simply perpetuate America's destructive dependence on the oil and gas industry.

  9. Legislation targeting Md. fracking is premature

With many important issues before the Maryland legislature this year, it is a shame to see time and effort being wasted on unnecessary proposals regarding natural gas development in our state. Pursuing such legislation right now is putting the cart before the horse — and could have a significant negative impact on our economy and efforts to create new jobs.

  11. LNG export a bad bet for Md.

In a recent commentary ("Say yes to LNG," Nov. 13), Dan Ervin of Salisbury University correctly asserts recent industrial innovations in drilling technology — known generally as fracking — have led to an enormous surplus of natural gas in...

  13. Say no to Maryland LNG

In his recent commentary, ("Say yes to LNG," Nov. 14) Dan Ervin does The Sun's readership a disservice by glossing over the risks of exporting liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Maryland. Mr. Ervin ignores the fact that such exports will increase Marylanders'...

  15. Investment outlook for 2013 clouded by uncertainty

Usually by early December, investment professionals have mapped out their outlook for the next year. But such forecasting has been made difficult by the "fiscal cliff" — the confluence of spending cuts and higher taxes that kick in automatically...

  17. Study predicts natural gas exports boost US economy

A new study predicts that exporting the nation's cheap, seemingly abundant supplies of natural gas will boost the U.S. economy, giving a nudge to prospects for shipping liquefied fuel abroad from a nearly idle terminal in the Chesapeake Bay.

  19. Say yes to LNG

The debate about whether the United States should export liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Cove Point and other waterfront terminals has been going on for months. It is time for action.

  21. Dominion's LNG export bid sparks legal dispute

For four decades, the owners of the liquefied natural gas terminal at Cove Point in Calvert County have given a pair of environmental groups a say over expansion of the sprawling complex, originally built to import fuel from abroad via the Chesapeake Bay. By all accounts, it's been a cordial, cooperative relationship.

  23. Fracking dangers are overstated

While we agree with Katie Huffling that safe, responsible, tightly-regulated natural gas development must be done in a way that protects "the health of our communities and the environment," her recent op-ed ("The hidden health risks of fracking," July 20)...
