1. Trees falling for Baltimore Grand Prix

Dozens of trees are falling on downtown streets to improve sight lines for spectators at the Baltimore Grand Prix, but event planners intend to replace them after the race — half of them in large pots so that they can be moved, not destroyed, in future years.

  3. Table Talk: Baltimore restaurant numbers holding steady

August is historically a slow month for restaurants — that's why you see so many restaurant-week dining promotions scheduled for this month. August is also a slow month for food journalists, which is why you see so many restaurant-industry trend reports.

  5. Redistricting Baltimore

We all knew this was coming. The 2010 Census revealed that Baltimore continued to lose population over the past 10 years — albeit at a slower pace than in previous decades — and with Maryland's decennial redistricting process under way, it seems likely that the city's representation in Annapolis will again be diminished. The wailing and gnashing of teeth in response to that prospect has begun.

  9. Many residents along Grand Prix course excited

Sharon and Bill Reuter moved to Ridgely's Delight in 1986, before Ravens perched a few blocks away and before Camden Yards evoked anything more than a faded industrial past. When the city and state got serious about building a ballpark just across...

  13. Governor O'Malley says the state has come a long way in defending against threats since 9/11

None of us will ever forget where we were on Sept. 11, 2001. Many of my family members were in New York. I remember the feeling of dread when I couldn't reach anyone by phone. Among the nearly 3,000 who died in the attacks, 68 names are inscribed in the memorial unveiled in Baltimore today.

  17. Fourth of July incidents mar Inner Harbor's image

To a city that struggles to shake off its crime-ridden image, the incident seems like the last straw: On one of the most festive days of the year, in one of the safest places in town, amid a veritable battalion of police, a bullet appears to have fallen from the sky to strike a 4-year-old boy.
