Why they are No. 10?

With new offensive coordinator Gregg Brandon's spread offense, it remains to be seen how quarterback Vic Hall, a converted cornerback, adjusts with an inexperienced receiving corps and no proven depth at running back. It can't get much worse on offense for U.Va., which was 101st or worse in the nation in total offense from 2006-08.

Key to the season

It may take a few games for U.Va.'s offense to click, so the defense will have to keep games manageable, which means three new starting linebackers need to develop in a hurry.

Our prediction

Cornerback Ras-I Dowling will become the first U.Va. defensive back to get first-team All-ACC honors since 1998, when Anthony Poindexter earned the distinction, but the Cavaliers will finish 5-7.
