Former Jamestown High player Mike Jones and current Jamestown competitor Brad Mahaffey won the boys 18- and 16-and-under championships, respectively, in the William and Mary "Beat the Heat" Indoor Championships, a Level 5 tournament at McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.

Mahaffey won three matches in straight sets, including a 6-4, 6-3 triumph against Jared Abrams in the final.

Jones, who plans to play for Methodist University in Fayetteville, N.C., won both of his round-robin matches, 6-0, 6-0 against Alex Harding of Williamsburg and 6-4, 6-4 versus Mark Williams of Virginia Beach.

Jacqueline Jones of Toano beat three opponents to capture the girls 14s championship. Grayson DeBerry of Williamsburg was the runner-up in boys 14s.
