Lafayette High and Virginia Tech graduate Mark Tepes, who lives in Medford, N.J., emerged atop a field of 27 to win the U.S. Tennis Association national 35-and-over grass-court championships at Philadelphia Cricket Club.
Tepes, who didn’t lose a set in his four matches, was leading 6-2, 1-0 in the final when his opponent, Joshua Schofield, retired.
Former Hampton University standout Paulo Barros was a quarterfinalist in singles, and he and Tepes fell in the doubles semis. ...

Cyrous Bagheri (4.5/4.0) and York High's Josh McFadden (3.5) won the men’s singles titles in last weekend's Berry/Bolden Memorial tournament on clay at Riverside Wellness and Fitness Center in Newport News.
In the finals of the Peninsula Tennis Patrons Association Grand Prix event, Bagheri edged Jason Crosby 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) and McFadden beat Tsuneo Kageya 6-2, 7-5.
