William and Mary's distance duo of Elaina Balouris and Emily Stites highlight a contingent of local and state athletes competing at the NCAA Division I outdoor track and field championships Wednesday through Saturday at the University of Oregon.

Twelve athletes from Virginia Tech will compete, including 2013 NCAA champ Tomas Kruzliak in the hammer throw. Virginia qualified seven athletes, among them Kyle King (from Grafton High) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Hampton University sends eight athletes, led by 800-meter specialist Ce'aira Brown, who set the school record in the event (2:03.76) at the NCAA East regional meet last month.

VCU's Kiara Porter, a junior from Tabb High, qualified at 400 meters for the second consecutive year. She set the school record of 51.72 seconds at the NCAA regional meet, the fourth-fastest time in both regional meets.

Balouris and Stites finished 2-3 at 10,000 meters at the regional meet in Jacksonville, Fla. Balouris ran the second-fastest 10,000 in W&M history (33:13.54) and Stites the third-fastest (33:15.25) in the fastest 10K qualifier in the five years the NCAA has used the regional-meet format.
