Jon Cash has been fired by WAVY-TV after more than 20 years at the station, the popular meteorolgist posted on his web site yesterday.
Cash, who also preaches and travels as an evangelist, put up a notice on his joncashministries.com site in which he said the station fired him on Tuesday afternoon, noting that "details of this sad event will be upcoming in the days and weeks ahead."
Doug Davis has not commented beyond an acknowledgment that Cash no longer works at the station.
Over his two decades at WAVY, Cash developed a strong local following and helped give the NBC affiliate the highest ratings for any local newscast. He has written several books on biblical prophecy and was ordained as an evangelist in 2003.
In the note posted on his web site, Cash notes that "God has called me into full-time service to Him," and encourages his fans to make donations "to help me feed my family" and to support his ministry.
A Bring Back Jon Cash page on the social networking site Facebook had more than 1,100 fans by noon on Wednesday.
