Though its 1-5 and coming off a 28-point loss to Denbigh, Gloucester is  tied for eighth and final playoff spot in the eastern half of Group  5A South.

The Dukes, who have never made the postseason in since joining the former Group  AAA in 1990, are tied with Hickory with 18 points. Like Group 6A South, 5A South takes the top eight teams from the two conferences that have teams from the former Eastern Region.

There are three teams within one point of Hickory and Gloucester for the eighth spot. That includes winless Menchville.

Hampton (3-3) held its spot at No. 4 in 5A South.

In 6A South, Woodside (4-2) dropped from fifth to eighth with last week's loss to Heritage. Bethel (4-2) moved from eighth to sixth with a win over Kecoughtan, which dropped to 10th -- nearly two full  points below the cutoff.

In 4A South, which goes with the top 16 teams, Heritage (6-0) remained No. 1.  Phoebus (5-1) dropped to No. 3 while Denbigh (4-2) moved from eighth to seventh.
