The Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge is on fire.
According to the latest reports, the 8-day old wildfire has burned 5,700 acres. To put that into perspective, one acre is a football field, minus the end zones and 10 yards.
The fire started Aug. 3 with a lightning strike. Emergency responders say hot, dry conditions and wind gusts are propelling the blaze.
