Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Monday night

Damaging winds and some isolated tornadoes are possible across the region Monday night as deadly storms move up from the southwest.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 11 p.m. across Central Maryland, including Carroll, Baltimore, Harford and Howard counties and Baltimore City.

Frequent lightning, hail as large as a quarter and scattered wind gusts up to 70 mph are possible, the National Weather Service cautioned.

The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center forecasts “enhanced” threats of severe weather, with the strongest risk of damaging straight-line winds and some chances for tornadoes.
