William E. Bowser, 85, of Chambersburg, passed away April 4, 2012, at the Chambersburg Hospital. He was born Aug. 20, 1926, in Berlin, to David R. and Emma (Fisher) Bowser. He was married to Louise (Glessner) Bowser on May 1, 1948, and they would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary next month. He is survived by his wife Louise of Chambersburg and four children: Gloria (wife of Glenn) Snyder of Northumberland; Patricia Bowser and Tomalee (wife of Gary) Watson, both of Meyersdale; and William E. Bowser II of Chambersburg; five grandchildren: Christal Artice of Meyersdale; Gale Purbaugh of Rockwood; Todd Snyder of Sunbury; Adam Snyder of Fairfield, Conn.; and Audrianna Lawyer of Chambersburg; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great granddaughters and two sisters: Mary Leecy of Cumberland, Md. and Joan Bush of Berlin. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: David and Jack Bowser and four sisters: Helen Cameron, Evelyn Schrock, Kathryn Christner and Kay Sweitzer. Bill was employed by the Western Maryland Railroad, which became CSX, for 38 years. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force. He loved to play softball and pitched until he was 80 years old in the 50 and over Chambersburg slow pitch league. Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family. Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 725 Norland Ave., Chambersburg handled the arrangements.
