BOSWELL — Cheyenne Kuncher, Chantelle Ansell and Rachel Druist netted two goals apiece as top-seeded North Star opened the District 5 Class A girls soccer playoffs with a dominating 8-0 victory over Northern Bedford County on Monday.
Chasity Dupont and Haley Eubanks also tallied goals for the Cougars, who improved to 17-1-1. Assists were credited to Ansell (3), Druist and Alex McCartney.
"I am very proud of my girls for the game today," North Star coach Renee Lepley said. "The conditions were extremely muddy and wet, but the girls did a great job passing and stepping to every ball. We definitely controlled the tempo of the game. The midfield and defense rarely let the ball cross into our defensive end of the field."
North Star will battle Berlin on Wednesday in the semifinal round at Somerset's athletic stadium.
Berlin 2, Tussey 1
SAXTON — Tina Trulick scored twice to give Berlin a 2-1 victory over Tussey Mountain in a first-round District 5A girls soccer playoff game Monday.
Berlin battles top-ranked North Star on Wednesday. The game will be played in Somerset starting at 7 p.m.

SOMERSET — Allyson Lonas had two goals and one assist to lead second-seeded Conemaugh Township to a 4-0 first-round District 5 Class A girls soccer playoff win over Everett on Monday.
Megan Boyer and Danielle Wertz also scored for the Indians while Annie Livella and Marla Aurandt contributed assists. Jenna Telenko made nine saves in goal to post the shutout.
Conemaugh Township will play McConnellsburg in the semifinals Wednesday at Bedford at 7 p.m.
McConnellsburg 2, Rockwood 1
McCONNELLSBURG — Rockwood was eliminated from the District 5 Class A girls soccer playoffs with a 2-1 first-round loss to McConnellsburg on Monday.
Sarah Foy scored the Rockets' only goal off an assist from Sara Romesberg. Rockwood finished its season with a record of 10-8.
"It was a good season," Rockets coach Susie Branam said. "I'm proud of the girls overall."
