MEYERSDALE — Logan Miller scored three touchdowns and two 2-point conversions Thursday in Meyersdale's 28-14 rain-shortened junior high football victory over North Star.
Cage Borelle also had a touchdown for the Red Raiders.
Kyle Supanick scored two touchdowns and a two-point conversion for the Cougars.
Meyersdale (6-1) concludes the season next Thursday at 6 p.m. at Berlin.
Shock earns World Series berth
GREENCASTLE — The Ligonier Valley Shock earned a berth in the USSSA 18U Softball World Series next July with a second place finish this past weekend in the USSSA 18U "Fall Clash" tournament held in Greencastle.
The Shock finished with a 3-2 record in the one-day tournament, falling to the Maryland Black Ice 6 -3 in the championship game.
Leading the way on offense for the Shock was Tori Parlock (Westmont) who batted .615 with three triples, two home runs and seven runs scored. Sam Emert (Rockwood) hit .583 with five RB's and four runs scored. Breanne Wallace (Ligonier) hit .538, while Kara Butler (Connellsville) and Savannah Leonard (Meyersdale) batted .357 and .333 respectively, with Butler rapping two triples. Emert led the way on the mound with two wins, 14 strikeouts and zero earned runs allowed in 11 innings pitched. Megan DeMartino (Berlin) earned the other victory.
This will be the fourth year that the Shock has qualified for the USSSA World Series, playing twice in Orlando, Florida and once in Ocean City, Maryland. Their best showing to date was a ninth place finish in 2011 in Orlando.
