SIDMAN — Somerset Post 181 literally hit the cover off the ball as the Businessmen blasted St. Michael 18-0 in Cambria County American Legion baseball action Friday.
Somerset scored three runs in the first inning and then bolted out to a commanding lead with an 11-run second inning rally.
Winning pitcher Myles Ream was in a groove. He allowed four hits and struck out two batters while Brent Barron recorded the final three outs to preserve the shutout.
“After a disappointing performance on Tuesday when we got beat by Bedford,” Hay said, “the boys were ready to play tonight and we took it out on St. Michael.”
Drew Hemminger carried the big stick for the Businessmen, batting 3-for-4 with three runs scored and five RBIs. Devin Pritts went 3-for-3 with four runs scored. Zach Helsley was 2-for-3 with four runs scored and two RBIs. Zane Helsley was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs and Cameron Darr batted 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
The Businessmen (4-1) travel to Portage today. Game time is 2 p.m. They also travel to Patton for a doubleheader Sunday with the first game starting at 2 p.m.
Stoystown 15, Westmont 5
CAIRNBROOK — Andrew Glessner drove in six runs, including a walk-off hit in the sixth inning, to highlight Stoystown’s 15-5 victory over Westmont in CCAL baseball Friday.
Glessner, who batted 3-for-4, also tripled and hit an inside-the-park home run. His sixth-inning hit ended the game because of the league’s 10-run mercy rule.
Jordan Shroyer went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs and Josh Purchase, the winning pitcher, was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
The Stoystown Stars improved to 5-2 on the season.
Salisbury 8, Kingwood 1
KINGWOOD — Matt Gieger threw a one-hitter with 17 strikeouts to lead Salisbury’s 8-1 victory over Kingwood in Casselman Valley Little League on Friday.
Gieger also led Salisbury with three hits, including a home run, double and three runs scored. Jeff Nickelson had two hits and scored three times.
Losing pitcher Dillon Phillippi had 12 strikeouts. He had Kingwood’s lone hit and only run scored.
Kingwood (6-6) plays a doubleheader Monday at Grantsville (Lions).
SOMERSET — The team of Dave Hause, Fred Gross and Chris Cooper combined to scatter 1,951 pins for first place honors in senior bowling Friday at Terrace Lanes Bowling Center.
