State Rep. Joe Preston, D-East Liberty, has introduced a bill that the legislature should put the brakes on.
He wants to increase the speed limit on the Pennsylvania Turnpike to 70 miles an hour. The Turnpike Commission would have to approve the increase before it would become law.
The Ohio Turnpike raised its speed limit to 70 mph in April 2001 and have experienced an almost 6 percent increase in crashes and a 17 percent increase in injuries.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike has too many curves and Pennsylvania's weather can be too nasty. This is a bill that should be pulled over and given a citation as a bad idea.
