North Star administrators are being proactive in their efforts to improve school bus safety.
The school district has experienced three separate bus accidents since May. The most recent crash occurred Oct. 3 when a van collided with a school bus near the intersection of Route 30 and Main Street. Each of the three accidents have occurred along Route 30.
Superintendent Shawn Kovac said he plans to attend the Griffith Buslines safety committee meeting to talk with bus drivers and emphasize additional caution.
“Route 30 continues to get busier and we continue to see congestion,” said Kovac, who drives the road daily. “I’ve seen a heavy increase in truck traffic, in particular.”
Kovac said most buses have been re-routed to avoid the Main Street, Route 30 intersection near the former Watkins Chevrolet property.
