NS 2, Ligonier 0
LIGONIER — North Star rallied in the second half with a pair of goals to beat Ligonier Valley 2-0 Thursday in girls varsity soccer.
Cheyenne Kuncher scored the first goal, assisted by Chantelle Ansell. Ivy McClintock added the second goal, which was assisted by Kuncher. Sam Carmean was the winning goalkeeper for the Lady Cougars, who improved to 11-1.
“This win is definitely credited to the freshman trio,” North Star coach Renee Lepley said. “We had an off-game in the first half and definitely were outplayed by a very good Ligonier team. We picked it up in the second half, but really came alive when Kuncher scored with about seven minutes remaining in the half. We started playing our style of soccer. Two minutes later, McClintock sealed the win with the second goal. Freshman Casey Liska played an awesome game at sweeper. It was the first time we played her there all season and I am really proud of her for shutting down Ligonier’s top scorer Maddy Grimm. Carmean was fantastic in goal, having some really incredible saves. I am really proud of all the girls for playing hard and adjusting to some changes we had to make because of players being out of the lineup due to injuries.”
Somerset, Bedford tie
BEDFORD — Somerset and Bedford battled to a 0-0 tie in double overtime in a boys varsity soccer marathon game Thursday.

The two evenly matched squads failed to score a single goal after playing two 40-minute halves followed by two 10-minute overtime periods.
Incidentally, the JV game was also a 0-0 stalemate.
Somerset (7-1-2) travels to North Star for a 4 p.m. game today.
