Johnstown Symphony Orchestra to host Mother's Day concert

Concert goers are invited to enjoy an inspiring afternoon concert of classical, patriotic and Broadway favorites conducted by Maestro Istvan Jaray. Classical compositions will feature Paganini's Variation on a Rossini Theme, and Saint-Saens Danse Bacchanale from Samson and Delilah among others. Patriotic selections will include the Star Spangled Banner, Armed Forces Salute, America the Beautiful, and God Bless America. Broadway favorites will feature selections from The Sound of Music and Les Miserables.
Maestro Istvan Jaray comments about the concert, "What better way to celebrate Mother's Day than with beautiful music. Every year, we look forward to the highlight of our season by having this annual Somerset concert. It has become a wonderful tradition. The Somerset Women's Auxiliary has made it into a home-coming for us. This special concert recognizes and expresses all of our appreciation for mothers everywhere."
Olga Redkina, principal cellist of the JSO, will perform as soloist in Paganini's Variation on a Rossini Theme. Redkina has performed in solo recitals and with orchestras in both western and eastern Europe as well as in the United States. She has been principal cellist for the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra since 1999. She is also a teacher who has been successfully coaching a wide range of students of different ages in her private studio since 1999.
In addition to her passion for teaching she has been able to balance her experience as a soloist. She has performed as a soloist in Kazan City, Nabereshny Chelny, Perm, Nishniy Novgorod, St. Petersburg, and Moscow, recording solo music on Kazan City TV for Tchaikovsky- 150 Years and recording a solo performance to represent Special Music School of Kazan for Germany music schools.
Redkina has won many awards in solo competition throughout the years before ceasing competition in 2003. She was the selected winner of the Duquesne University Soloist Competition 2002, Joyce Dutka Arts Foundation Chamber Music Competition New York, NY 1999, Kazan State Conservatory Soloist Competition Russia 1997, St. Petersburg Music Soloist Competition 1996, Kazan State Soloist Competition Russia 1995.
She earned her Masters in Music, Cello Performance, and her Artist Diploma from Duquesne University and Undergraduate Degree, Cello Performance & Teaching from Kazan State Conservatory in Russia after completing Concentrated Music Study at the Kazan Special Music School.
Her orchestral experience includes playing principal cello with the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra from 1999 to present. During this same time she also played principal with the Altoona Symphony Orchestra, and was invited to play with the Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra from 2003-2004.
From 1996 to 1998 Olga played with the Kazan Chamber Orchestra and the Kazan Philharmonic Orchestra where her role was assistant principal.
