Last Friday our county was hit with yet another economic blow with approximately 134 workers losing their jobs at PBS/Rox Coals. In a county with, according to the latest unemployment figures, 9.5 percent unemployment, this is devastating news.
The PA CareerLink® Somerset County and other CareerLink offices in the surrounding counties are here to assist these workers and others through these difficult times.
The CareerLink offices can assist workers in enrolling and searching for jobs on PA CareerLink® website and JobGateway to fulfill the job search obligation required by unemployment compensation. Workshops are given with valuable information for your job search. Workshops scheduled for June are: Self-Directed Job Search for Beginners, Civil Service/Non-Civil Service, and an informational workshop for veterans.
In addition to these workshops, basic computer and job club classes are held weekly. A calendar of these workshops and classes is available at the PA CareerLink® Somerset County. Appointments can be made for assistance in creating or updating your resume and cover letter.
There are computers and a dedicated phone line available to help file for unemployment and/or to speak to a representative at the unemployment compensation service center in Altoona or Indiana.
We have knowledgeable staff available to assist you in discussing the possibility of retraining, intensive job search planning and other assistance during this difficult time.
Please call the PA CareerLink® Somerset County at 814-445-4161 or visit at 218 N. Kimberly Ave., Somerset, PA for assistance, schedule a workshop or class, or to set up an appointment with one of our staff.
