ALTOONA — Somerset's Sydney Geary and Hope Brock claimed the District 5 doubles girls tennis championship with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 victory over Bedford's Erica Klavuhne and Amber Lafferty in the finals Monday at the Altoona Summit Tennis and Athletic Club.
Geary and Brock advanced to the finals by defeating Shanksville's Kelsey Foor and Kennedy Haines 10-4 in the quarterfinals, and Windber's No. 1 seed Kate McClain and Dani Walsh 10-6 in the semifinals.
Somerset's No. 2 team Bailey Stinebiser and Jenna Abramowich lost 10-3 in the quarterfinals to Bedford's Klavuhne and Lafferty.
"I couldn't be more proud of both of the teams for representing Somerset," Somerset coach John Harris said. "This is the first time I've coached gilrs at Hershey."
Geary and Brock will represent Somerset at the PIAA State Doubles Tournament on Nov. 2-3 at Hershey.
