When a starter goes down pundits are asking, "will team officials call Brett Favre?"
But for how many more years? Favre is 42 years old. And to his credit there hasn't been anything reported from his camp that suggests he wants to return. But Favre's anti-legend now goes beyond his own desires. Because pundits love to talk about the possibility of another return.
In Green Bay many Cheesehead faithfuls will probably recall the Brett of old —the Viking slayer and Super Bowl champion. But the rest of NFL fandom is being reminded of the Packer turned Jet turned Viking — the aging veteran who just wouldn't go away — every time a starting quarterback goes down.
Now pundits, fans and maybe even some coaches are wondering if a middle-aged Favre is better than their backups. Maybe Brett finds the comparison flattering. But it's probably not how Favre, when he was an NFL MVP, envisioned being remembered.
