Betty Irene (Artice) Uphold, age 78, of Confluence, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 4, 2013 in her home. She was born Sept. 30, 1934 in Selbysport, Md., daughter of the late Harvey F. and Hazel Irene Firmstone Artice. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James H. Uphold Sr. on April 27, 2009; a grandson James H. Uphold III and three brothers and two sisters: Ray Artice; twin brothers Robert and Lewis Artice; and Jeanetta Artice and Faye Humberston. Betty was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church. She was a member of the first graduating class of Northern Garrett high school, class of 1953. She worked as a seamstress at Faymore Sewing Factory in Confluence and was co-owner of the U Company. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and sister. Surviving are these children: Sandra K. Hosmer and husband Stephen R. III; Cynthia Marie Shipley; James H. Uphold Jr.; Timothy H. Uphold Sr. and wife Theresa; Julia Mae Show and husband Richard; Greg Allen Uphold Sr. and wife Michelle R., all of Confluence; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; three sisters: Julia Mae Wilbon; Catherine Savage; and Naomi Griffith and husband Hobert; a brother Ronald Artice and wife Patricia and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the hour of service, on Saturday, with Rev. Michael Grantz officiating, in the Donald R. Crawford Funeral Home, 4222 National Pike, Farmington, Pa. Interment will follow in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Gideons International, c/o Fayette County Gideons, P.O.
