Ankney helps North Star net shutout victory

Brady McVicker and Austin Swihura both scored a goal and had an assist for the Cougars. Preston Miller scored off a Swihura throw-in. Swihura scored on a header off a McVicker corner kick as time was winding down in the game. Josh Smith assisted on McVicker’s goal. Josh Ankney made seven saves to pick up the shutout in net.
“We are young and have been a bit unlucky with having all of our players available for each game,” head coach Chad Duryea said. “The 13 guys we had (today) played very well as a team.”
North Star (8-8-1) travels to Hyndman for a 4 p.m. contest Friday.
CT 6, Salisbury 0
DAVIDSVILLE — Conemaugh Township blanked Salisbury 6-0 in boys varsity soccer Wednesday.
The Indians scored five of the six goals in the second half. Jake Sauter added to his career totals with two goals. Ben Wilson, Izzy Callihan, James Bissette and Sebastian Ebers also scored. Jeff Callihan recorded the shutout.
Conemaugh Township (13-2-1) hosts Rockwood at the elementary school on Saturday. Game time is tentatively scheduled for 10 a.m. pending weather.
Rockwood 0, Windber 0
ROCKWOOD — Rockwood and Windber battled to a 0-0 double overtime tie in boys soccer Wednesday.
The Rockets outshot the Ramblers 34-14. Garrett Walerysiak made 25 saves to Jon Waltermire’s seven.
Rockwood (9-4-2) hosts Hyndman today at 2:30 p.m. while Windber (9-6-1) hosts Johnstown Christian Monday.
Westmont 3, Somerset 0
WESTMONT — The Somerset varsity girls soccer team lost 3-0 at Westmont Wednesday.
Goalie Anna Hostetler had 21 saves for the Eagles.
“We finished out the season playing with a lot of heart and never giving up,” head coach Renee Ross said. “We didn’t get the win but we played as though we should have. We may not have had the number of wins that we would have liked this season, but I’m proud of the team nonetheless.”
Somerset ends the season 6-12 overall.
