We are so close, yet so far away.
The Flight 93 National Memorial is still $5 million short of the money needed for its completion. It is the only one of the three major 9/11 memorials that has not been fully funded.
More than 100,000 individuals, organizations and corporations have donated funds. The effort to finish the memorial has won high-profile supporters, including former Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton and House Speaker John Boehner who held a Washington, D.C. fundraiser in May. They raised $2.5 million.
The Alcoa Foundation pledged up to $255,000 in funds matching donations made by Oct. 1. The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced it is donating $9.11 from every adult admission that took place from Sept. 9-12. Schools are participating in the "93 Cents for Flight 93."
But still more must be done. We're not there yet. The heroes must be honored with a completed memorial. For information about making a donation, visit www.honorflight93.org.
