Martin-Baker General Manager Mike Santoro announced that the company signed a long-term agreement with Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation for helicopter seats and installation kits for a UH-60M helicopter. The agreement is valued at $40.5 million. The company manufactures ejection seats, assemblies and components for the U.S. Armed Forces and allied countries along with helicopter seats for military and commercial operators.
Santoro said that the contract will also help the company maintain its work force. He said that his company has not let go of any workers.
"Once you got workers trained up you really don't want to let them go," he said.
Bob Shark, vice president of JARI Procurement Technical Assistance Center, announced that JARI is offing a new outreach initiative to inform small businesses about support services available to them with a focus on how those businesses can begin to sell to federal, state and local government agencies. The initiative will help JARI expand its outreach.
"We work with businesses to help sell goods and services to government agencies," Shark said.
Three of the five scheduled workshops will be held in Somerset County. The program will begin in September. Locally the workshops will be held Sept. 19 at Somerset Career and Technology Center, Sept. 21 at Windber Medical Center and Sept. 25 at Somerset Trust in Meyersdale. The events begin at 8 a.m.
"You'll be hearing more about this in the future," Shark said.
