Consider splurging on seasonal sweets for a good cause this weekend. Several Hartford and West Hartford restaurants will offer dessert specials made with locally-grown apples, with proceeds going to Growing Great Schools, a parent advocacy group committed to serving school lunches with fresh, healthy and local ingredients.
Hartford: Max Downtown and Trumbull Kitchen
West Hartford: Barcelona, Grants, Max's Oyster Bar, Max Burger, Restaurant Bricco, Rizzuto's, Treva.
Among the offerings: local apple cobbler at Restaurant Bricco and Grants, Lyman Orchards apple crisp with gingerbread gelato at Barcelona, apple crisp at Rizzuto's and apple cobbler at Treva.
All of the Max Restaurant Group desserts use apples from Deercrest Farm in East Glastonbury: a steamed caramel apple cake at Max Downtown, an upside-down cornmeal apple cake at Max Burger, an apple walnut strudel with pomegranate caramel sauce at Max's Oyster Bar and apple dumpling with cinnamon caramel and toasted oats at Trumbull Kitchen.
The dessert specials are available Nov. 2, 3 and 4 at participating locations.
