Urgent care facility moved
Holy Family Hospital, which previously offered an immediate care center at 150 N. River Road, Des Plaines, is opening in a new location, 205 S. Northwest Highway in Park Ridge. For more information, call 847-292-5200.
A fast food restaurant was burglarized in Park Ridge, police said. Monday morning, employees at Wally's Restaurant, 1006 N. Northwest Highway, reported that the restaurant was broken into and burglarized, said Park Ridge Police Deputy Chief Lou Jogmen. No one was hurt. Citing preliminary information, Jogmen said estimates on damage or loss haven't been determined.
Cops seek coats for charity
The Des Plaines, Niles and Park Ridge police departments are taking part in a Cops For Coats drive to provide warm coats for Maine Township families. The drive seeks clean, gently worn coats. A drop box will be in the Des Plaines Police Department lobby, 1418 Miner St., until Nov. 13. Coats can also be dropped off at the Park Ridge Police Department, 200 S. Vine St., and at the Niles Police Department, 7000 W. Touhy Ave. The coats will be distributed on Nov. 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Maine Township Hall, 1700 Ballard Road in Park Ridge.
"With the holidays approaching many of our residents are thinking about ways we can help others. Cops For Coats provides this opportunity," Des Plaines Police Officer Michael Heidkamp said in a press release.
Ward meeting to be held
Third ward Ald. Denise Rodd will host a ward meeting Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Prairie Lakes Community Center, 515 E. Thacker St., Des Plaines, to discuss recent issues at Potawatomi Park, and what residents can do to mitigate the issues. The guest speaker will be Dr. Gregory Sarlo, a clinical psychologist with experience in "positive loitering" in Rogers Park. For more information, go to 3rdward.org.
Leaf collection starts
Weekly leaf collections begin in Des Plaines on Monday, Oct. 21, and continue until Nov. 25. A zoned collection schedule is available on the city's website, desplaines.org. Street parking is not allowed from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on collection days. Leaves should be raked into the street by 6 a.m. on collection days, and a row of leaves that includes grass, branches, rocks or other debris will not be collected. Residents on certain streets should rake leaves in the parkway. A list of those streets is available on the city website.
