Gino Nudo joked about his Fenwick team's exclusion from the rankings last week, then quickly declared it too early to determine whether the Friars belong.
"We'll see this week," he said. "Brother Rice is a good team. This will tell us a lot."
Fenwick is now "on the verge" of the Tribune's Top 20 after dispatching Brother Rice 28-20 on the road Friday night.
Western Michigan recruit Robert Spillane had his third big game in three weeks for the Friars, rushing for 149 yards and a score and catching two TD passes from Gino Cavalieri.
In three games, Spillane has rushed for 444 yards and seven TDs while averaging better than 10 yards per carry.
Cavalieri, whose three TD passes give him six this season, has completed 29 of 46 attempts for 503 yards.
The Friars (3-0) will play host to Bishop McNamara (2-1) to open the Catholic League White schedule Friday night at Morton.
Bishop McNamara is coming off a 42-0 loss to No. 1 Mount Carmel.
Fenwick will be favored to win each of its next three games and could be 6-0 before facing Providence at home Oct. 12.
Here's a look at the other games in the area this weekend:
Oak Park (3-0) vs. Downers Grove North (2-1), 7:30 p.m. Friday: The Huskies entered the rankings this week at No. 20, but they'll have to defeat an angry Trojans team coming off a humbling 21-0 defeat to Glenbard West. Oak Park beat Proviso West 29-6 last week for the first victory over the Panthers in third-year coach John Hoerster's tenure.
Lyons (1-2) vs. Glenbard West (2-1), 7:30 p.m. Friday: Just as the Lions are feeling better about themselves thanks to a 31-14 victory over Leyden, they have to contend with a defending state champion coming off a signature win of its own. Lyons is going to need big games from QB Tommy Fiedler and RB Leonard Ross, who rushed for 220 yards against Leyden.
Nazareth (2-1) vs. Joliet Catholic (3-0), 1:30 p.m. Saturday: These teams have produced some memorable battles in recent years, and this game comes at an important time for the Roadrunners following their 45-37 loss to Marist.
