The evening began with an outdoor reception on the front plaza that included food from some of Chicago's food trucks, plus mini operatic performances by Redmoon Theater Company and the drum ensemble JASC Tsukasa Taiko. Following the reception, the 300 guests moved indoors to the theater, glowing in shades of pink and purple. Roles reversed as guests were seated onstage and performers appeared in the theater seats. Dinner, courtesy of Wolfgang Puck, offered fried green tomatoes, Japanese barbecued shrimp and more.
The 42nd Chicago Pride Parade took over the streets of East Lakeview Sunday with more than 230 entries that included 90 floats, dignitaries in cars, marching bands and performance groups. Gov. Pat Quinn and Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who proclaimed June as "Pride Month in Chicago," kicked off the parade along with first-time participants from the Peace Corps, Chicago Teachers Union and City Colleges of Chicago.
