The Rivals Challenge at Soldier Field last weekend featured 100 of the top prospects in the country.
The Chicago area was represented by Plainfield South linebacker Clifton Garrett, Crete-Monee linebacker Nyles Morgan and Benet junior quarterback Jack Beneventi, who was an alternate at the camp in case of an injury but took part in all workouts.
Morgan is taking a slower approach, but said he has decided on at least two official visits.
"I'm going to take official visits to Ole Miss and Vanderbilt for sure," he said.
Edwards picks Western Michigan: Lakes senior T.J. Edwards orally committed to Western Michigan on Monday.
"I had offers from both Toledo and Wyoming, and I looked hard at both schools," said Edwards, who is projected to play outside linebacker in college. "In the end, Western Michigan offers a great mix of academics and football. Coach (P.J.) Fleck is excited about the future of Western Michigan football and you can feel the excitement from the community about the team."
And then there were three: De La Salle senior offensive tackle Jamarco Jones is scheduled to announce his college decision June 27 at the school, but recently narrowed his list from five to three.
Jones said he will visit all three one last time.
"I'm going to visit Michigan on Saturday, Michigan State on Sunday and then Ohio State on Monday," he said.
Edwards gets second offer: Downers Grove North junior David Edwards added his second scholarship offer late last week from Vanderbilt while at a camp there. Edwards (6-foot-6, 215 pounds), who plays quarterback for the Trojans, was offered as a tight end.
"I'm totally fine with playing tight end in college, and more and more schools are recruiting me for the position," Edwards said.
Plenty to watch at Richards: Senior receiver Tacari Carpenter has offers from Akron, Eastern Illinois, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. Senior outside linebacker Romel Hill added recent offers from Eastern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Illinois State, North Dakota and North Dakota State. Senior defensive back Dylan Jiles picked up his first offer last week from Indiana State.
Keep an eye on junior quarterback Hasan Muhammed-Rogers, who drew looks from several Big Ten schools during the spring evaluation period.
Extra point: Providence junior receiver Miles Boykin received an offer last weekend from Illinois after a camp Friday night in Champaign. (
"It feels great and I'm excited to get my first offer from Illinois," Boykin said. "I really liked working with the Illinois coaches at the camp. It's a big weight off my shoulders to get that first offer."
